On June 11, a press conference was held, dedicated to the preparations for the International Municipal BRICS Forum 2024. The forum is scheduled to take place on August 27-28, 2024, at the Expocentre in Moscow. Representatives from government bodies and business communities from over 100 countries will participate in the event.

The Government of Moscow acts as the General Partner of the Forum, which was previously held in Saint Petersburg and attracted a significant number of business and expert community representatives. The Forum’s commencement in Moscow marks a new direction for cooperation among cities, agglomerations, and metropolises, showing the growing influence of the BRICS association.

The speakers at the press conference included Sergey Cheryomin, Head of the Department for External Economic and International Relations of Moscow; Alexey Shaposhnikov, Chairman of the Moscow City Duma; and Mikhail Sverdlov, Director of the IMBRICS Business Communications Foundation, the official organiser of the International Municipal BRICS Forum 2024.

📍The key topics planned for discussion at the forum:

- Growing role of metropolises in sustainable development processes;

- Investment appeal of cities;

- Development of metropolises and the resolution of infrastructure challenges;

- Innovative approaches to city management;

- Efficient resource management in cities and agglomerations;

- Implementation of information technologies;

- Ecology;

- Development of the social sphere (education, culture, tourism, healthcare, sports).

Additionally, within the framework of the International Municipal BRICS Forum, topics of comprehensive development, as well as energy and food security, will be addressed.

✏️ Sergey Cheryomin, representing the main partner of the International Municipal BRICS Forum, the Moscow government, emphasised that the capital, one of the most advanced metropolises in the world, is ready to share its knowledge and cutting-edge experience with the event participants.

📈A separate section of the Forum will be dedicated to parliamentary interaction at the level of BRICS cities and agglomerations, as noted by Alexey Shaposhnikov. The signing of inter-parliamentary agreements is planned, with some discussions expected to focus on the development of the Arctic.

✅ Mikhail Sverdlov, in turn, stated that at this stage, more than 700 enterprises have confirmed their participation in the business and exhibition programmes, and the number of participants already exceeds 5,000 people.

At the end of the event, Sverdlov also noted that special attention during the Forum will be paid to the development of direct connections between representatives of municipal entities and the business community, as well as to the formation of effective integration processes and the enhancement of investment attractiveness.
